The producers of ReelFast are continually making efforts to keep the 48 Hour Film Festival an inclusive event. In the first two years since the festival’s inception in 1999 the number of teams competing was limited to 10. A surge of interest led to the cap on teams being lifted in 2001. That year 48 teams signed up to make films. Due to time constraints however it remained that only 10 films could be screened at the Gala and Awards. We realized that the inclusion of more teams meant that an evening of screenings separate from the Gala and Awards was necessary. In 2002 ReelFast established The Festival Screenings at the ANZA club. Since then the number of competing teams has risen to 79 in 2004. This dramatic yearly increase has compelled us to leave the always-welcoming ANZA Club and find for a larger venue for this years Festival Screenings, Performance Works on Granville Island. In 2005 ReelFast is opening up eligibility for the People’s Choice Award to all completed films (normally restricted to films screened at the Gala). Dialogue with Festival participants and audience helps keep ReelFast accessible for all filmmakers and lovers of film. We welcome your comments and suggestions.
